Criw Cymraeg
The Criw Cymraeg play a hugely important role in our school. Their main aim is to encourage and promote the use of Welsh in and around the school with both pupils and staff. Our Criw Cymraeg is made up of children from each KS2 class.
In December 2019, we were very proud to be awarded the Welsh Cymraeg Campus Bronze Award, which is part of the Welsh Language Charter for primary schools.
We are now working towards the set of criteria to acheive the Silver Award. Criw Cymraeg will be very busy supporting pupils and staff to meet the challenge.
These are some of the things Criw Cymraeg do:
- We lead Welsh assemblies for the whole school and sing songs in Welsh.
- We help to organise our annual Eisteddfod.
- We announce the winning class of "Tocyn Iaith” (Language Tickets).
- We help teach the new "Ymadrodd y Pythefnos" (Phrase of the Fortnight).
- We give out certificates to pupils who have written a diary entry for the class "Dyddiadur Dewi" (Dewi’s Diary).
- We lead the children in saying our Welsh prayer at lunch-time.
- We teach others how to play games in Welsh at playtime.
- We reveal the latest topic for ‘Sgriblo Sydyn’ and help children write their responses.
- We run the ‘Siop Ffrwythau’ (Fruit Tuck shop) at break time
These are some of things we have also been helping with:
- Criw Cymraeg attended a fun Jambori with Martyn Geraint, organised by the Urdd.
- We delivered an assembly about Santes Dwynwen (Welsh equivalent of St. Valentine).
- Year 3 exchanged e-mails in Welsh with Gilwern Primary School.
- We tested and reviewed new Welsh apps and websites.
- Menter Iaith visited school and taught us Welsh songs.
- Upbeat Wales also visited and taught us about traditional Welsh music and culture.
- We celebrated ‘Shwmae Day’ &’ Dydd Miwsig Cymru’.
